Structural Biology is a flourishing research field aimed at elucidating the three dimensional architecture, assembly and functional mechanism of biological macromolecules. The Netherlands have a long history in the development and use of structural biology techniques including cryo electron microscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance, macromolecular crystallography and computational methods. The Structural Biology Platform (SBP) was established in 2023 to bring together Dutch scientists who share a passion for structural biology. The platform aims to enhance exchange of knowledge, sharing new ideas and create a sense of community.
This year’s NVBMB spring symposium is dedicated to the Dutch Structural Biology community and will provide the Structural Biology Platform kick-off. The meeting will be held on 12 May 2023 in Groningen.
'State of the art structural biology techniques & findings'
The structural biology is undergoing a renaissance, capitalising on the over-century long history and recent technological breakthroughs. The modern structural biology toolbox consisting of (but not limited to) macromolecular X-ray crystallography, Nuclear magnetic resonance, cryogenic-electron microscopy and molecular dynamics simulations / modelling, offers an unprecedented possibility to study structural details of any living object at the molecular level. The upcoming meeting (12th of May, Het Van Swinderenhuys in Groningen) will inaugurate the Dutch structural biology platform, aimed to unite structural biology investigators working in The Netherlands and highlight their excellent research.
